8 of the Most Essential Items for Postpartum Recovery

Giving birth is pretty much the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen and experienced in my entire life.

I’ve given birth twice and watched the birth of two of my nieces. I still can’t seem to wrap my head around the miracle of birth. It’s just such an incredible experience!

The recovery, though… not so beautiful.

Although the recovery isn’t so great, it’s just part of the process. Plus, it’s totally worth it once you have that sweet baby to hold.

I had two very different experiences each time I gave birth.

Giving birth to my second daughter, Luci, was a much better experience than my first. The recovery was much easier!

Each of my birth experiences were so different. Both times I used these eight essential items to help with the recovery process. They were such a huge help both times!

1. Adult Diapers

This Always Discreet Underwear will be the best thing you buy! Do yourself a huge favor and stock up on these!

Take some to the hospital with you! The mesh panties that the hospital provides just don’t cut it!

2. Pads

These Always Flex Foam Pads are the best pads for postpartum bleeding!

They are the best pads I’ve ever used, and they absorb so much! I used size 4 or 5 for the first few weeks and size 1 or 2 after everything slowed down a bit.

Make sure to get the unscented to keep synthetic fragrances away from your healing body.

3. Disposable Ice Packs

When you run out of the ice packs that you’ll take home from the hospital, these Frida Mom Ice Packs are great to have.

Ice packs will help relieve some of the pain, so you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of these!

4. Witch Hazel Pads

When you’re trying to heal, you want to use good, clean products to help with the healing process.

These Cool Comfort witch hazel pads are great for postpartum bleeding. They’re just like the Tucks pads, but these are a clean, organic option.

5. Perineal Balm

Use this Organic Earth Mama Perineal Balm to help with the pain. It provides a cool feeling that will help provide some relief while recovering.

Another clean product that is safe to use on your healing body.

6. Perineal Spray

Using cleaner products will help improve your recovery!

This Earth Mama Perineal Spray is a clean alternative to the Dermoplast spray that is typically used.

Use it each time you use the bathroom to help provide cooling relief.

7. Bed Pads

Put these bed pads in your bed when you sleep to protect your sheets and mattress from any leaks that might happen.

Use these to save you from the emotional breakdown that will happen when you have to change the sheets at 2 am with no sleep and a crying baby.

8. Bump & Postpartum Friendly Underwear

I used this underwear while I was pregnant and postpartum.

They are super comfortable when you’re pregnant, not too tight around your bump. Once I was finished with the Always Discreet Underwear, I wore these.

They’re so soft and comfy, perfect for postpartum recovery! They are true to size, so order your usual size, and they should fit great!

Postpartum tip

Take the stool softener! Don’t ask questions, just take them. Trust me!

You could also do some research and talk to your provider about taking magnesium. This can help with using the bathroom after giving birth.

Congratulations Mama! You’ll do great & I wish you all the best with your recovery!
