Imagine this breakfast nook with a large round table, too big for the space, and a large storage bench that took up even more space. Ugh!
1. Clear the area
We could barely walk around the table and eating there was so uncomfortable and cramped.
A majority of the time, we just used the dining table as a drop-off location for anything we had in our hands as we walked through the door.
I was so glad to get rid of that table that I forgot to get a picture of what the space looked like with all of that ugly mess in it!
2. Create a design
Once I got rid of that oversized table I could finally envision what I wanted the space to look like.
We were using the area as a dining space which meant that we weren’t using our dining room for anything.
I wanted to start using our dining room for what it was intended for and turn the breakfast area into a space we would still use and love.
That’s when I decided on a sitting area. I loved the idea of having a space for us to sit and have our morning coffee or a comfy place to sit and talk to whichever one of us is in the kitchen cooking our next meal.
Here’s what our breakfast nook looks like now, and we love it!
3. Upgrade fixtures
We switched out the light fixture to something that would go with the space and avoid hitting our heads whenever we stood up!
4. Add or update window treatments
We added these decorative curtains to the windows and it made the area much more inviting.
Here’s how we created these farmhouse curtains.
5. Make it cozy
We added this rug to help make the space a lot cozier.
I bought these accent pillows to add more comfort.
6. Find furniture
I needed to find furniture that would fit perfectly in the area. Anything too big would crowd the space and I’d be back in the same situation I was in before.
I was excited when I found these accent chairs on Facebook Marketplace!
I found this small accent table at a cute little furniture store while out shopping one day but here’s one similar to the one I found.
7. Decorate your space
I bought this cute fall decor from my favorite home decor shop!
The only thing I’m still on the lookout for is a pouf or footstool that will go perfectly with this area. When I find something I’ll update you!
We use this space every day and it has become one of my favorite areas in the house!
